Sao Paulo and James Rodríguez have yet to reach an agreement to terminate his contract. The Colombian midfielder has offers from Europe but they want him to be a free agent.
It's been a complicated week for James Rodríguez and his potential contract termination with Sao Paulo. According to Globo Esporte, the player's representatives have been negotiating his exit from the club to become a free agent. The Colombian still has a contract until 2025.
So far, the Brazilian team has not received any offers for James, who decided not to return to the club after his successful Copa América. James is hoping for a swift resolution while on vacation with his family. The newspaper notes that Sao Paulo is pressuring the player to be more flexible with the terms of the agreement.
The Tricolor team wants James to forgo a significant portion of the terms agreed upon when he signed in 2023. However, the 33-year-old midfielder's camp has remained firm and is not open to negotiation. In January 2024, James demanded his share to terminate the contract, but an agreement was reached allowing him to return to play.
James reportedly has offers from Europe, with Lazio being the most interested club closely monitoring his situation. The teams interested in him want him to arrive as a free agent, thus avoiding negotiations with Sao Paulo. Recently, the president of the Italian club commented on the Colombian's situation.
"We will see. We need to make a series of evaluations regarding salary, commissions, and compatibility with the club's new policy, not just focus on the zero transfer fee," highlighted Claudio Lotito, who is very interested in signing the Colombian for the next season.
