AC Milan’s sporting director Antonio D'Ottavio is set to leave the club after a clash with Zlatan Ibrahimović, who has taken a key leadership role at the Italian giant.
Antonio D'Ottavio, the sporting director of AC Milan, is reportedly leaving the club after a conflict with the outspoken Zlatan Ibrahimović. The legendary striker, now in a crucial off-field role, has been tasked with helping Milan regain its place among Europe’s elite, but his uncompromising approach has created tension within the club’s hierarchy.
Italian media reports suggest that the disagreement between Ibrahimović and D'Ottavio centers on differing visions for the first team, the Milan Futuro project (focused on the club’s second team), and the youth academy. Ibrahimović, known for his assertive personality, reportedly disagreed with D'Ottavio’s strategies and was unwilling to compromise.
While the club has yet to confirm D'Ottavio’s departure officially, sources indicate it is imminent. Ibrahimović is expected to take over many of the sporting director’s responsibilities, working closely with technical director Geoffrey Moncada.
The shake-up underscores the significant influence Ibrahimović now wields at San Siro, where he is striving to implement his vision of restoring Milan to its former glory.
Among Milan’s projects is the Milan Futuro team, which currently includes Damir Zukić, a Slovenian defender who joined from Primorje this summer. Zukić’s development reflects Milan’s commitment to nurturing young talents, a cornerstone of Ibrahimović’s and Moncada’s plans for the club.
Ibrahimović’s leadership style has always been polarizing, and his tenure in this new role appears no different. As Milan continues its journey back to the top, the departure of D’Ottavio could signal a significant shift in how the club is managed, with Ibrahimović’s influence growing stronger by the day.
