Bayer Leverkusen, the reigning German champions, has secured the signing of Alejo Sarco, an 18-year-old Argentine forward currently playing for Vélez Sarsfield. Sarco has been one of the standout young talents in Argentine football this season, scoring six goals and providing one assist in 14 appearances.
Sarco’s contract with Vélez expires at the end of the year, allowing him to join Xabi Alonso’s squad in January 2024. According to reports from Germany, Bayer Leverkusen plans to integrate Sarco immediately into their first team, signaling high expectations for the teenager’s development under Alonso’s guidance.
Bayer is currently third in the Bundesliga, and while they haven’t been as dominant as last season, the team is in excellent form. Just last night, Bayer defeated Bayern Munich in the German Cup, marking their fourth consecutive win across all competitions.
Leverkusen’s schedule remains packed, with a league match against St. Pauli this Saturday, followed by a crucial Champions League clash against Italian giants Inter Milan.
Meanwhile, Vélez Sarsfield, Sarco’s current club, is in the thick of the Argentine Primera División title race, holding a three-point lead over Talleres at the top of the table.
Sarco’s move to Europe represents another milestone for Argentine football, with fans eager to see how he develops in one of Europe’s most exciting teams under Xabi Alonso’s tutelage.
