Despite rumors linking Ronald Araujo with Juventus, Joan Laporta insists Barcelona is eager to keep the Uruguayan defender amid contract uncertainty.
Ronald Araujo’s future at Barcelona remains uncertain as the club faces growing speculation about his potential transfer to Juventus. However, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has made it clear that the Catalan giants want the Uruguayan defender to stay and are working toward an agreement.
Laporta’s comments came on the same day he announced that Barcelona has resolved its financial issues and can now operate normally in the transfer market, meaning there is no urgent financial pressure to offload key players like Araujo. Speaking on the matter, Laporta stated, "That's a question for Deca… I want Araujo to stay. I think we can find a solution. I like Ronald because he is an exceptional player and a great guy. Due to various factors, he is currently talking to our sports sector. There is still time to find a solution."
Barcelona’s defensive options have taken a hit with Inigo Martinez ruled out for a month following an injury sustained during the final of the Spanish Super Cup. This makes Araujo’s potential departure even more problematic for coach Hansi Flick, who would be left short of experienced defenders.
Despite Laporta’s optimism, Spanish media reports suggest that Barcelona may have already agreed to sell Araujo due to his reluctance to renew his contract, which is set to expire in June next year. If no agreement is reached soon, Barcelona could risk losing the player on a free transfer next summer.
Araujo, known for his commanding presence and defensive prowess, has become a vital part of Barcelona’s backline since joining the senior team. His departure would represent a significant loss for the club, both defensively and in terms of long-term planning. Juventus, meanwhile, is keen to bolster its defense and views Araujo as an ideal addition to their squad.
As negotiations continue, it remains to be seen whether Araujo will remain at Camp Nou or seek a fresh challenge in Serie A. For now, Laporta’s focus is on convincing the 24-year-old to commit his future to Barcelona.
