Ecuadorian footballer Marco Angulo, 22, has tragically died from injuries sustained in a car accident. The promising midfielder was a rising star for Ecuador’s national team and LDU Quito.
Ecuadorian club LDU Quito announced the passing of Marco Angulo, a promising 22-year-old midfielder regarded as one of Ecuador’s brightest football talents. The news comes 35 days after he was involved in a severe car accident that had already shaken Ecuadorian football last month.
The tragic incident occurred when a vehicle carrying four passengers, including Angulo, crashed at high speed into a 50-ton metal structure. The force of the impact was so great that it shifted the heavy structure by five meters.
Angulo, a defensive midfielder who had earned two caps for Ecuador’s national team, was on loan from FC Cincinnati in the United States to LDU Quito, one of Ecuador's top clubs. Following the accident, he underwent a decompressive craniectomy, a procedure where 300 cubic centimeters of blood were removed to relieve pressure in his skull caused by the trauma. He also suffered a lung contusion. Despite the medical interventions, his club confirmed today that Angulo passed away from his injuries.
