Greece lost to Russia in the 2004 group stage but went on to sensationally win the title. Dmitri Kiričenko made European Championship history, but there's still room for the record to be broken.
Russian striker Dmitri Kiričenko holds the record for the fastest goal in the history of the European Championships. Kiričenko scored after just 67 seconds in a match against Greece at Euro 2004 in Portugal. Russia won the game 2-1, but it wasn't enough to advance, while Greece progressed despite the loss and went on to sensationally win the European title. Kiričenko played for the Russian national team from 2003 to 2006, scoring four goals in 12 appearances.
The second fastest goal in European Championship history was scored by Swedish player Emil Forsberg, who netted after just one minute and 22 seconds in a match against Poland at the last Euro. Forsberg also scored a second goal in the 59th minute, but Poland's Robert Lewandowski (61', 84') brought his team back into the game, with Sweden securing victory through Viktor Claesson (90+4') deep into stoppage time.
The same tournament saw the third and fifth fastest goals. The third goal was scored by Danish player Yussuf Poulsen, who found the net against Belgium after one minute and 39 seconds. However, Belgium turned the game around in the second half.
Polish player Robert Lewandowski scored the fourth fastest goal in Euro history during the quarter-finals against Portugal at Euro 2016, netting after 100 seconds. The match ended 1-1, with Portugal advancing on penalties (5-3) and eventually winning the title.
The fifth fastest goal was scored in the final of the last Euro by Luke Shaw, who put England ahead after one minute and 56 seconds. It was the fastest goal in Euro final history, breaking the previous record held by Jesus Maria Pereda, who scored for Spain against the USSR after five minutes and 17 seconds in 1964. Spain won 2-1, claiming their first of three European titles.
