For the third time in Dutch football history, twin brothers played together for the national team, continuing the country's unique tradition with the Timber brothers.
Having brothers play for the same national team is rare, but it's not unheard of. The Netherlands has seen 16 sets of brothers represent the nation, but what's truly special is that, for the third time in the team's history, twin brothers took the field together.
After René and Willy van de Kerkhof, and Frank and Ronald De Boer, the Timber twins—Jurrien and Quinten—followed in the footsteps of their famous predecessors by playing together in a Nations League match against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Jurrien Timber is the better-known of the two, currently playing for Arsenal, while his brother Quinten Timber is making a name for himself as a key player for Feyenoord. Unfortunately, neither brother featured in the recent European Championship in Germany due to injuries.
The Netherlands has a history of notable brother pairs, including Erwin and Ronald Koeman, Siem and Luuk de Jong, and Rob and Richard Witschge, making the Timber twins the latest in a proud tradition.
