Fire breaks out during River Plate vs Boca Juniors at Estadio Monumental, as Boca win tense Superclásico clash.
An alarming moment unfolded during the Superclásico between River Plate and Boca Juniors, when a small fire broke out inside the packed Estadio Monumental.
The stadium, filled with around 85,000 fans, was already at full intensity as River supporters prepared a massive pre-match display.
In an effort to create a historic atmosphere, fans brought 50,000 flags and nearly 40 tons of paper, forming a huge visual show in the Sivorí stand.
During the buildup, one section briefly caught fire when a seat ignited. Supporters nearby quickly moved away, and the flames were brought under control without further escalation.
The exact cause remains unclear, though it likely relates to materials used for the choreographed display.
Despite the incident, the match continued as planned in front of a charged crowd.
On the pitch, Boca Juniors secured a narrow victory. Leandro Paredes scored the decisive goal deep into first-half stoppage time.
River Plate could not turn their strong home support into a result, ending a dramatic night with disappointment.
The derby once again showed its intensity, delivering both spectacle and tension in equal measure.
