Sturm Graz bids farewell to their key striker Mike Biereth, who joins Monaco after an impressive first half of the season with 14 goals in all competitions.
Austrian champions Sturm Graz have officially confirmed the sale of their top scorer, Mike Biereth, to French club Monaco for a transfer fee of €13 million. The 21-year-old Danish striker, who played a pivotal role in Sturm’s quest for a second consecutive league title, earned his move with a stellar performance in the first half of the season, scoring 14 goals in 25 appearances across all competitions.
Biereth has signed a long-term contract with Monaco until 2029, further underlining the French club’s faith in his potential. This move makes Biereth the second most expensive sale in Sturm’s history, trailing only his compatriot Rasmus Hojlund, whose transfer to Atalanta fetched the Austrian side €20 million, including bonuses.
Sturm will now have to regroup and find ways to replace Biereth’s goal contributions as they continue their battle for the Austrian Bundesliga title. The loss of their top scorer comes at a critical point in the season, and fans will be eager to see how the club navigates the remainder of the campaign without their star forward.
