Raheem Sterling struggles at Feyenoord with no goals and limited minutes, drawing sharp criticism from club legend Willem van Hanegem.
Raheem Sterling is facing growing criticism at Feyenoord, where his move has yet to deliver results and frustration is building around his performances.
The England international joined the Dutch club in the winter transfer window after falling out of favour at Chelsea under coach Enzo Maresca. The move aimed to revive his career, but the impact has been minimal so far.
Since arriving at the end of January, Sterling has played only 333 minutes across six appearances. He has not completed a full match and has recorded just one assist.
His goal drought adds to the concern. Sterling last scored in September 2024 against Bolton in the EFL Cup, leaving him without a goal for over a year and a half.
The situation has triggered strong reactions in the Netherlands, led by Willem van Hanegem, a former international and Feyenoord icon.
“If I were Feyenoord, I would demand a refund and tell him to go home. He really doesn’t help anyone. Let him go to Ibiza, put on a swimsuit and have paella with his wife,” he said.
There are also signs of declining trust from the coaching staff. Sterling did not feature in the most recent match, raising further doubts about his role in the squad.
The coming weeks will be key for Sterling, as pressure continues to rise and expectations remain unmet.
