DR Congo international Silas Katompa Mvumpa, one of Red Star’s biggest signings this summer, shared his journey from playing on the streets to joining Crvena zvezda.
DR Congo international Silas Katompa Mvumpa, who arrived as the biggest signing of Red Star’s summer transfer window, recently introduced himself to fans. The Stuttgart loanee, with an option to buy, could become the most expensive signing in Crvena zvezda's history.
In an interview with Zvezda TV, Silas spoke about his football beginnings.
"I started playing football on the streets, like many kids in Africa. Then I went for a trial in Belgium, but it wasn't until I got to France that I started thinking seriously about a football career. Dedication helped me catch Stuttgart's attention, and I moved to one of Europe's strongest leagues," the winger explained.
Silas spent five years at Stuttgart and gained valuable experience, which he hopes to bring to Red Star.
"I gained a lot of experience in Germany that I will use to help Crvena zvezda achieve the best results."
The decision to leave the Bundesliga for Serbia wasn’t easy, but after discussing it with his family and agent, Silas felt it was the right move:
"It's not easy to leave Germany for Serbia, but after talking with my family and agent, we decided that signing for Red Star, playing in the Champions League, and fighting for trophies was the right choice."
Red Star’s first Champions League opponent is Benfica, and Silas is eager to make an impact.
"I'm very excited to play that match. I'll give everything to help the team secure our first victory and start the season in the new Champions League format in the best way possible," he said.
He ended the interview with a message for the fans:
"I ask for your support and motivation because only together can we achieve great things."
