Ruben Amorim admits Manchester United’s FA Cup win over Leicester came with luck, calling for VAR after a controversial offside goal sealed their progress.
Manchester United’s dramatic FA Cup win over Leicester City has sparked controversy, with manager Ruben Amorim openly admitting his side benefited from a clear officiating error.
Harry Maguire scored a late goal in extra time to secure Manchester United’s advancement in the FA Cup, but replays showed the defender was clearly in an offside position when the decisive pass was made. Despite the obvious infringement, the referees allowed the goal to stand, leaving Leicester City heartbroken and out of the competition.
After the match, United manager Ruben Amorim didn’t shy away from addressing the controversy, openly acknowledging that his team had benefited from a fortunate decision.
"The goal was clearly offside. We need VAR technology in the FA Cup to prevent these kinds of mistakes from happening again. It’s a tough blow for our opponents and I’m sure it’s especially difficult for Ruud van Nistelrooy. We weren’t good enough today," Amorim admitted.
Amorim’s mixed start at Old Trafford
The match marked Ruben Amorim’s 20th game in charge of Manchester United since taking over. His tenure has been a rollercoaster, with 10 wins, two draws, and eight losses. Despite the win, performances like this will likely keep the pressure on the Portuguese coach as the season progresses.
