Rijeka faces a €100,000 fine and fan restrictions after their supporters disrupted the Conference League play-off match against Olimpija Ljubljana.
Rijeka has been handed a hefty fine of €100,000 by UEFA following the violent behavior of their fans during the Conference League play-off second leg against Olimpija Ljubljana. The punishment doesn’t end there, as Rijeka’s supporters are now banned from attending the next three away games in European competitions.
The Croatian side suffered a humiliating 5-0 defeat, the worst European loss in their history, but the drama escalated when Rijeka’s fans interrupted the match by throwing flares at Olimpija supporters. The incident led to a significant disruption, forcing UEFA to take severe action.
In addition to the financial penalty, Rijeka must also negotiate with Olimpija to compensate for the damage caused by their fans, which reportedly includes around 300 damaged seats.
Meanwhile, Olimpija also faces consequences, with a fine of €85,000 and a partial stadium closure for their next European match. This sanction is due to racist behavior from their fans, and the stadium closure will be enforced if a similar incident occurs within the next two years.
