Red Star Belgrade are monitoring CSKA Sofia midfielder James Eto’o as a potential summer signing to strengthen their midfield ahead of next season.
Red Star Belgrade are reportedly interested in signing James Eto’o, the 25-year-old Cameroon international midfielder currently playing for CSKA Sofia, as part of their plans to reinforce the squad for next season.
According to reports from African media, the Serbian champions have already established contact with the player’s representatives and are closely monitoring his situation in Bulgaria ahead of the summer transfer window.
Eto’o joined CSKA in 2024 and has emerged as one of the team’s key performers this season, contributing four goals and eight assists — numbers that have drawn attention from clubs across Europe.
Competition from within Bulgaria
Red Star are not the only club following the midfielder. Bulgarian champions Ludogorets are also said to be interested, potentially complicating negotiations for the Belgrade side.
Before moving to Bulgaria, Eto’o gained experience in France with Nantes and Boulogne, where he developed into a versatile central midfielder capable of contributing both defensively and offensively.
Contract situation and valuation
Although he remains under contract with CSKA Sofia until 2027, his market value is estimated at around €1.5 million. However, any transfer fee could be significantly higher given his importance to the team and growing international profile.
Red Star are expected to prioritise strengthening their midfield during the upcoming window, and Eto’o’s profile fits the club’s strategy of signing players entering their peak years with potential resale value.
