William Carvalho, the Portuguese international and Real Betis player, faces serious allegations of sexual assault, a situation that has sent ripples through the football community and raised questions about the ethical responsibilities of professional athletes.

According to reports from Spanish and Portuguese media, Carvalho is accused of sexually assaulting a woman who traveled from Ibiza to Seville to meet him. The alleged incident occurred last August, after a dinner and socializing led to them ending up in a hotel. The woman claims to have been grabbed by the neck by Carvalho and then lost consciousness, waking up with signs of violence on her body.

Carvalho is set to appear in court in Seville to respond to these allegations. While initial hearings may not lead to severe measures like passport confiscation, the gravity of the accusations could have significant legal implications for the footballer.

Aged 31, Carvalho began his career at Sporting CP before moving to Betis in 2018. He has been a key player for both his club and the Portuguese national team, with whom he won the European Championship in 2016 and the Nations League in 2019.

These allegations against Carvalho pose a challenge for Real Betis, both in terms of handling the situation with their player and in maintaining the club's reputation. Similarly, the Portuguese national team may have to address the issue, given Carvalho's role as an international player.
