Michael Carrick revived Manchester United with strong results, yet co-owner Jim Ratcliffe refuses to confirm whether the interim coach will remain beyond this season.
Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe praised the work of interim manager Michael Carrick, yet refused to reveal whether the former midfielder will remain in charge after the season.
Carrick stepped in following the departure of Rúben Amorim and quickly stabilized the team during a difficult period at Old Trafford.
Since taking over, the 44-year-old coach has overseen a remarkable improvement in results. Manchester United have won six of their last eight matches and collected more points than any other Premier League club during that stretch.
The surge in form pushed United into third place in the league table, suddenly placing the club firmly in the race for a return to the Champions League.
Ratcliffe, who rarely comments on managerial matters publicly, acknowledged the positive impact Carrick has made.
"He's doing a great job, yes, absolutely," Ratcliffe told Sky Sports.
However, when asked whether the club is considering making Carrick the permanent manager, the British billionaire chose not to give any indication.
"No, I won't talk about that," Ratcliffe replied.
The uncertainty has not stopped several former Manchester United players from supporting Carrick’s candidacy.
Club legends such as Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen recently suggested the former midfielder deserves the opportunity to continue leading the team.
For now, the focus inside the club remains on securing a strong finish to the season.
If the current momentum continues, Manchester United could qualify for the Champions League for the first time since the 2022/23 campaign.
Ratcliffe acknowledged the importance of that objective but emphasized that the race remains open.
"Of course, we are thinking about it, but there are still seven or eight games left. There is still a long way to go," he explained.
The next major test arrives soon when Aston Villa, currently in fourth place, visit Old Trafford. A victory would move United three points clear in the battle for European qualification.
Until then, the question surrounding the future of Michael Carrick will continue to hover over one of the biggest clubs in English football.
