Former Slovenian international Andres Vombergar is linked with a move to Vasco da Gama. If completed, he could join Philippe Coutinho in Brazil’s strongest league.
Andres Vombergar, the former Olimpija Ljubljana striker, has had a career spanning multiple continents, including Russia, the UAE, and Mexico. Now, at 30 years old, he could be on the verge of the biggest move of his career.
The San Lorenzo forward has reportedly attracted the interest of Brazilian powerhouse Vasco da Gama, which could provide him with a chance to compete in South America’s strongest league, often regarded as the best outside of Europe.
Vasco da Gama has shown interest in Vombergar before, but the player previously opted to remain in Argentina’s Primera División. However, with San Lorenzo struggling financially, the club is unlikely to retain its top players once their contracts expire.
Should the move materialize, Vombergar would join a team with significant ambitions. Vasco da Gama has already landed stars like Philippe Coutinho, one of the most expensive players in history, and is rumored to be under the radar of Evangelos Marinakis, the Greek billionaire who owns Nottingham Forest, Olympiacos, and Rio Ave.
For Vombergar, who has represented both Slovenia and Argentina at various points in his career, this could be a golden opportunity to showcase his skills on one of the grandest stages of South American football.
