Former Partizan and Yugoslavia defender Branko Rašović, who played in the 1966 European Cup final, has passed away at the age of 83.
Branko Rašović, the legendary defender and former Partizan Belgrade player, has passed away at the age of 83. The club from Humskova Street confirmed the news, expressing condolences to his family and friends.
Rašović, originally from Podgorica, played for Partizan for five years, making 210 appearances and scoring two goals. He was part of the iconic Partizan team that reached the 1966 European Cup final against Real Madrid, where Partizan narrowly lost 2-1. After joining Partizan from Budućnost, where he began his career from 1962 to 1964, he remained with the club for three more years following the European final.
"With disbelief and sadness, we received the news that Branko Rašović, the legendary Partizan player, passed away today at the age of 83. FK Partizan extends sincere condolences to his family and friends. The time and place of the funeral will be announced later," Partizan stated.
After leaving Partizan, Rašović spent five years with Borussia Dortmund, retiring from professional football in 1974. Representing Yugoslavia, he played for the national team from 1964 to 1967, following a progression through the youth ranks. Post-retirement, Rašović worked as a coach at Partizan until his retirement in 2008. His son, Vuk Rašović, is also known for his time as a player and coach at the club.
