Presnel Kimpembe and Lucas Hernandez return to action for PSG after long-term injuries. Can they help Paris Saint-Germain recover their Champions League hopes?
Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique has confirmed the return of defenders Presnel Kimpembe and Lucas Hernandez, two key players who have been sidelined for an extended period due to serious injuries.
The 29-year-old Kimpembe has been out of action since February last year, following a ruptured Achilles tendon. Meanwhile, 28-year-old Hernandez underwent surgery in May after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament.
"It’s great to have them back among their teammates. Of course, they still need to regain match fitness after being out for so long. But their injuries are now behind them, and soon, they’ll strengthen our squad. Both are extremely important to the team," said Enrique.
PSG leads Ligue 1 but struggles in Europe
PSG continues to dominate Ligue 1, sitting comfortably at the top of the table with 33 points. Their nearest challengers, Marseille and Monaco, trail with 26 points each. However, in their most recent league match, PSG stumbled at home, drawing 1-1 against Nantes.
The situation is far more troubling in the Champions League. With three matches remaining, PSG finds itself outside the qualification spots, currently sitting in 25th place with just one win, one draw, and three losses.
The road ahead is challenging, with matches against Salzburg and Stuttgart away and a crucial home clash against Manchester City still to come.
