Olimpija’s star Raul Florucz is now being pursued by both Austria and Romania for international duty, with Austria’s Ralf Rangnick taking a serious interest.
In recent months, Raul Florucz has been on the radar of Romanian football authorities, including head coach Mircea Lucescu. The talented Olimpija Ljubljana player, born in Austria to Romanian parents, has started the season in spectacular form, shining both domestically and in European competitions. Due to Romania’s interest, Florucz had begun the process of obtaining a Romanian passport, which would allow him to represent Romania internationally.
However, a surprising development has unfolded. After initially taking a passive approach, Austria has now stepped up. Head coach Ralf Rangnick and his staff have started closely monitoring Florucz and have even added him to Austria’s reserve list for the national team.
"I spoke with people from the Austrian Football Association. They told me I’m on the list, and we also discussed my future," Florucz shared with Austrian media.
For Olimpija, the situation surrounding Florucz is positive news. The club is set to play another European match tomorrow against HJK Helsinki, where they’re hoping to secure more points. Meanwhile, the tug-of-war between Austria and Romania for Florucz’s loyalty can only raise his profile and market value—an exciting prospect for both the player and his club.
