Schalke 04 have officially confirmed the signing of Edin Džeko, who will wear the iconic No.10 shirt and lead the club in the second half of the season.
Schalke 04 have officially announced the signing of legendary Bosnian striker Edin Džeko, who will represent the “Royal Blues” for the remaining 16 matches of the 2025/26 season. The 39-year-old, the all-time top scorer and appearance record holder of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team, will wear the iconic No.10 shirt in Gelsenkirchen.
Sporting director Youri Mulder underlined that Džeko showed a clear desire to join the club from the very first contact.
“With Edin, we have signed a striker who has played at the highest level throughout his entire career. Alongside his leadership qualities, the team gains an outstanding goalscorer. In our talks, he showed a strong hunger for a successful second half of the season, and that excites us greatly,” Mulder said.
Džeko arrives at Schalke after an unsuccessful spell at Fiorentina and stressed that he followed the club closely before committing.
“From the moment the interest appeared, I watched Schalke very carefully and followed several matches. The conversations with the club, head coach Miron Muslić, and also with Nikola Katić were extremely positive,” Džeko explained.
A career built at the very top
Džeko arrives in Germany with a glittering résumé. He has won the Bundesliga title, finished as the league’s top scorer, claimed the Premier League twice, and played at elite level for VfL Wolfsburg, Manchester City, AS Roma, Inter, Fenerbahçe, and Fiorentina. For Bosnia and Herzegovina, he has scored 72 goals in 146 appearances.
Germany, where it all truly began
The 2008/09 season propelled Džeko into the European elite. He was one of the key figures in Wolfsburg’s unforgettable campaign, which delivered the club’s first and only Bundesliga title to date.
Forming a devastating partnership with Grafite, Džeko scored 66 league goals in 111 appearances for the Wolves. After eight goals in his debut season following his move from Teplice, he exploded with 26 goals in his second campaign and 22 in his third, earning the Bundesliga top scorer award.
Now, more than a decade later, Džeko returns to German football — this time as Schalke’s new No.10, a role many in Gelsenkirchen already describe as “a new Raúl moment” for the club.
