Carney Chukwuemeka has completed a loan move to Borussia Dortmund for the rest of the 2024/25 season, as the young midfielder seeks more playing time in the Bundesliga.
Chelsea confirmed the departure of the 21-year-old, who will spend the remainder of the season in Germany. The former Aston Villa player has struggled for minutes at Stamford Bridge and will look to gain experience in one of Europe’s top leagues.
"Borussia Dortmund have secured 21-year-old midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka on loan from Chelsea until summer 2025, with an option to make the move permanent," the German club announced.
Since arriving at Chelsea in August 2022, Chukwuemeka has made 32 first-team appearances, scoring two goals. However, this season, he has featured in just five matches, with his most recent outing coming in the UEFA Conference League against Astana.
The move offers Chukwuemeka a fresh start in a competitive environment, as he looks to develop further under Dortmund’s system. He joins a team currently sitting 11th in the Bundesliga under new head coach Niko Kovač.
Chukwuemeka will aim to make an impact in Germany, with the possibility of making the switch permanent if his loan spell proves successful.
