Paris Saint-Germain have finally accelerated their summer transfer activity. After strengthening their attack with Maghnes Akliouche, the European champions have now added experience to their defence.

Lucas Digne is officially a PSG player again.

The 33-year-old French international returns to Paris after spending the last few seasons with Aston Villa, completing an unexpected reunion with the club he left a decade ago.

Digne will provide coach Luis Enrique with an experienced alternative to Nuno Mendes, who has established himself among the leading left-backs in world football.

Back in Paris after ten years

Digne previously represented PSG earlier in his career before leaving the French capital and building an impressive CV across several major European leagues.

During the decade away from Paris, the left-back represented Roma, Barcelona, Everton and Aston Villa.

His experience was one of the attractions for PSG, who will again compete on several fronts during a demanding season.

Digne also remained part of the French national team and represented France at this summer's World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Now he returns home to provide competition and cover on the left side of Luis Enrique's defence.

PSG finally active in the transfer market

The Parisians were unusually patient during the opening part of the summer window.

Their first major move came with the signing of Maghnes Akliouche from Monaco for approximately 50 million euros.

The 24-year-old attacking midfielder and winger had established himself as one of Ligue 1's most interesting attacking players before moving to the European champions.

PSG are also expected to add Belgian winger Mike Godts, who remains an Ajax player for the moment.

With Digne now confirmed, Luis Enrique's squad is gradually beginning to take shape for the new campaign.

Several important players have already left

The changes in Paris have not been limited to arrivals.

Gonçalo Ramos, Kang-in Lee and Randal Kolo Muani have already left PSG this summer as the club reshapes the squad.

There are also persistent questions surrounding the future of Bradley Barcola.

The French winger has attracted considerable interest from the Premier League, with Liverpool most frequently linked with a move.

PSG would demand a huge transfer fee before agreeing to sell another important attacking player.

First trophies already approaching

PSG will begin their new Ligue 1 campaign on August 23, but Luis Enrique's players will have competitive business before then.

The European champions are preparing for both the UEFA Super Cup and the French Super Cup, allowing the club to add more silverware before the league season even begins.

After a relatively quiet start to the summer, PSG's transfer window is therefore beginning to move quickly. Akliouche has arrived, Digne is officially back, and more business is expected in Paris.
