Diego Gomez, one of MLS’s rising stars, is set to leave Inter Miami and join Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion.
The English club confirmed the transfer, effective January 1, 2025, upon the opening of the winter transfer window.
At Inter Miami, Gomez shone alongside superstars like Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Sergio Busquets. Miami dominated the regular MLS season with a record points tally, and Gomez contributed five goals and six assists in 24 appearances across all competitions.
The official announcement read: "We have reached an agreement to sign Paraguayan international Diego Gomez from Inter Miami. He will officially join Brighton on January 1, 2025, when the transfer window opens."
Inter Miami initially signed Gomez from Paraguayan side Libertad for under €3 million. According to reports, Brighton has agreed to pay approximately €13 million for the midfielder, securing a significant profit for the MLS side. Miami is expected to reinvest this windfall into new signings, with several names already linked to the club.
"I’m looking forward to working with Diego, who has impressed at both club and international levels. I’m confident he has much to contribute," a Brighton representative stated.
