Nantes ultras create a viral choreography criticizing football authorities, referencing the French Super Cup in Qatar and rising Ligue 1 subscription costs.

The Nantes ultras created a striking visual display during their team’s 2-2 draw with Monaco in the 17th round of Ligue 1, using a massive banner that resembled a comic strip to criticize football federations, broadcasters, and politicians.

The artwork featured sharp commentary on the current state of football:

  • “People are no longer interested in football.”
  • “We could schedule matches across the entire week.”
  • “Should we move all matches to Qatar?”
  • “Respect the fans.”

Beneath the display, a large banner stretched across the stands, bearing the message:
"Federations, broadcasters, and politicians: Leave football to the fans."

The protest references the French Super Cup, recently held in Doha, Qatar, where PSG defeated Monaco. The match, played in the Qatari capital, symbolized the increasing influence of QSI (Qatar Sports Investments), owners of PSG.

Fans also expressed frustration over the rising costs of watching Ligue 1 matches. DAZN, the league’s broadcast rights holder since this summer, has significantly increased subscription prices. Initially priced at €40, a yearly subscription now costs €69 (€9.85 per month).

The dramatic choreography and accompanying chants highlighted growing discontent among fans regarding football’s commercialization and detachment from traditional values. The spectacle has drawn attention across social media, reinforcing calls for prioritizing fan interests over profits.
