Due to an incident during a player substitution in the 2-2 draw between Fluminense and Gremio, the oldest Brazilian club and legendary footballer Marcelo have parted ways.
During the substitution, Marcelo had a heated exchange with Fluminense’s coach Mano Menezes, resulting in him being sent back to the bench instead of onto the field, leading to a contract termination. This has now been confirmed by one of the most decorated footballers in history.
Around midnight, Marcelo shared a message on Instagram, expressing gratitude to the club and recalling memorable moments. He did not say anything negative about Fluminense, where he started his career in 2005 and played until his move to Real Madrid in 2007. Marcelo thanked his family for their support, the club’s president and staff, teammates, and fans, highlighting the emotional connection with the club and the unforgettable moment of winning their historic first Copa Libertadores trophy.
30 Trophies Won in His Career
His message gathered over 1.2 million likes within nine hours, with one of the comments coming from Luka Modrić, who wrote, "The best," accompanied by a heart emoji.
Marcelo, with 30 trophies, is among the most successful footballers in history. He won 25 of these titles during his time at Real Madrid, where he played from 2007 to 2022. After a brief stint at Olympiacos, he returned to Fluminense in 2023, the club of his youth, only to leave it in an unfortunate manner.
