The Spanish La Liga has celebrated a major victory in its ongoing fight against piracy, successfully securing €31.6 million in compensation from Rojadirecta, the country’s largest illegal streaming platform.

The ruling, reported by Relevo, marks a landmark moment in La Liga’s efforts to combat the unauthorized distribution of football broadcasts.

Under the leadership of president Javier Tebas, La Liga has made fighting piracy a priority, emphasizing its detrimental impact on the value of television rights and the financial stability of the league. Tebas has consistently argued that illegal streaming causes substantial economic damage to the Spanish football ecosystem.

The court ruled in favor of Mediapro, the company holding television rights in the Spanish market, awarding it €31.6 million in damages. Tebas expressed his satisfaction with the ruling, stating on social media platform X (formerly Twitter): "They have fallen, and everyone else who profits from this theft will fall with them. Also Google, Cloudfare, among others."

This victory is seen as a significant step in La Liga’s broader strategy to protect its broadcast rights and ensure fair compensation for its content. The ruling also serves as a warning to other platforms and services that facilitate or profit from illegal streaming.
