Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has expressed his desire for Mohamed Salah to remain at Anfield, calling the Egyptian forward the best striker in the club’s modern history.

Jürgen Klopp, who brought Mohamed Salah to Liverpool in 2017, has publicly stated his hope that the 32-year-old forward extends his stay at the club. Salah’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and negotiations over a renewal appear to have stalled.

Speaking to reporters, Klopp said:
"I hope he stays. [He’s] the biggest striker LFC had in modern times. Obviously there were other really good strikers, but fantastic player, fantastic human being, outstanding athlete, best ambassador your country [Egypt] could have. Fantastic in all departments, so I hope he will stay at Liverpool."

A legendary partnership

Salah, who joined Liverpool from Roma for €42 million in 2017, made an immediate impact, scoring 44 goals in 52 games in his debut season. Under Klopp, Salah played a crucial role in Liverpool’s recent golden era, helping the club win multiple trophies, including:

  • Premier League (2020)
  • Champions League (2019)
  • FA Cup and League Cup (2022)

The partnership between Klopp and Salah redefined Liverpool’s attacking identity, with Salah becoming one of the most prolific forwards in world football.

Klopp’s transition and Salah’s future

In January 2024, Klopp announced his decision to leave Liverpool at the end of the 2023-24 season. By October, he had assumed a new role as Red Bull’s global head of soccer, overseeing football operations across the company’s teams.

Salah, meanwhile, has indicated that a renewal is "far away," raising questions about his future at Liverpool. Despite speculation, Salah’s legacy at the club is undeniable, and Klopp’s words reflect the admiration and hope shared by Liverpool fans.
