James Rodríguez continues to shine in Mexico, as his two assists helped León secure a 2-1 victory over Atlético San Luis on Sunday, keeping them unbeaten and propelling them to the top of the Liga MX Clausura 2025 standings.
The Colombian playmaker delivered a perfect corner kick in the 87th minute, setting up Paul Bellón, who headed home the winning goal in what was a fiercely contested match.
León had taken an early lead in the second minute, when Steven Mendoza converted a header off a precise pass from Andrés Guardado.
However, San Luis equalized in the 22nd minute through French midfielder Sébastien Salles-Lamonge, setting up a tense second half.
San Luis, under Spanish coach Domènec Torrent, had their chances to take the lead, but León held firm. The match ended in dramatic fashion, as Salles-Lamonge missed a penalty in the 98th minute, confirming León’s sixth win of the season.
León now sits at the top of the table with 19 points (6 wins, 1 draw), three ahead of defending champions América and Tigres UANL.
