Louis Buffon, the son of legendary Italian goalkeeper Gigi Buffon, has been named in the Czech Republic U-18 national team squad, marking a surprising turn in his international career.
Gigi Buffon is regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time, having captained the Italian national team and spent most of his career as Juventus’ first-choice keeper. However, his 17-year-old son Louis has chosen a different path.
Instead of following in his father’s footsteps with Italy, Louis Buffon has accepted a call-up to the Czech Republic U-18 squad. He is eligible for the team through his mother, Alena Šeredová, a Czech model, which also grants him Czech citizenship.
Unlike his father, Louis Buffon does not play as a goalkeeper. He is currently a left winger for the youth team of Italian club Pisa and will now get his first opportunity to represent a national side at the international level.
