Álvaro Arbeloa may not remain out of work for long following his departure from Real Madrid.
According to reports from The Athletic, Fulham FC have already made contact with the former Spain international and held initial discussions about the possibility of him becoming the club's next manager.
Fulham searching for Silva's successor
Fulham are looking for a new head coach after Marco Silva left the club to take charge of SL Benfica.
The London side are now evaluating potential candidates, and Arbeloa has reportedly emerged as one of the leading names under consideration.
The situation developed through a chain of managerial moves that ultimately began in Madrid.
With José Mourinho reportedly set to return to Real Madrid, Benfica moved quickly to appoint Marco Silva. His departure from Fulham then created the vacancy that could now provide Arbeloa with his first major senior managerial role.
England is familiar territory
A move to Fulham would not represent a leap into the unknown for Arbeloa.
During his playing career, the former right-back spent two seasons at Liverpool FC between 2007 and 2009 before later returning to England with West Ham United FC after leaving Real Madrid.
His experience of English football is believed to be one of the factors making him an attractive option for Fulham's hierarchy.
A difficult final season in Madrid
Arbeloa left Real Madrid after a disappointing campaign for the club.
The Spanish giants finished behind FC Barcelona in La Liga and were eliminated by FC Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Despite the lack of silverware, Arbeloa maintained a strong reputation within the club thanks to his work with young players and his deep understanding of Real Madrid's culture and values.
First major opportunity?
While Arbeloa remains at the beginning of his coaching journey, Fulham could offer him an immediate opportunity to test himself in one of Europe's toughest leagues.
The talks are still at an early stage, but the fact that a Premier League club moved so quickly after his departure from Madrid underlines the regard in which he is held.
