Fenerbahçe have launched a long-term social responsibility project, committing 1% of new first-team players’ salaries to support disadvantaged children and their education.
Turkish giants Fenerbahce have launched a powerful humanitarian initiative, underlining their ambition to measure success not only in trophies, but in social impact.
The club officially announced the project via its website, outlining a new, sustainable model of social responsibility centred on supporting children in disadvantaged circumstances. As part of the initiative, all future first-team signings will be required to contribute 1% of their salary to the programme.
Below is the club’s statement in full:
“As Fenerbahçe Sports Club, we see taking responsibility not only on the pitch but in every aspect of life, adding value to society and being a source of hope for the future as one of our fundamental duties. In line with this understanding, we are launching a sustainable social responsibility project, born from the visionary idea of our sporting director, Devin Özek, and fully embraced and carried forward by our club.
From now on, 1% of the salaries of all incoming first-team transfers will be allocated to a support programme focused on the lives of disadvantaged children, contributing to their education, development and future. Transfer negotiations will not be conducted with players who do not accept this principle of social responsibility and who are unwilling to contribute a portion of their salary.
Following meetings with relevant institutions and organisations, this programme will not be implemented merely as a campaign, but as a permanent and sustainable social responsibility model that reflects the values of Fenerbahçe.
The journey, whose first step is taken in memory of Cornelia Özek, the mother of Devin Özek and the source of inspiration behind this meaningful project, will become a tradition of Fenerbahçe Sports Club — symbolising an idea nurtured with love and the desire to leave hope and a lasting mark in the lives of thousands of children.
As in the past, Fenerbahçe will continue to measure success not only by trophies, but by the value it adds to human lives. As a club that carries the responsibility of being a great community at its heart, we will continue to support and embody this understanding in every field.
Just as Fenerbahçe lives in the hearts of millions, we will continue to be Fenerbahçe in the lives of children who are building their futures with hope.”
