Como lands 19-year-old Assane Diao for a record €11 million, making him the most expensive signing in the club's history.
Italian first division club Como is set to officially announce the signing of Assane Diao, a 19-year-old winger from Real Betis, in a record-breaking deal worth €11 million. The transfer includes various performance-based bonuses and a sell-on clause, ensuring additional compensation for Betis should Diao be transferred again in the future.
Although Como is backed by the wealthy Hartono brothers, known for their prudent financial management, this move represents a significant investment. Until now, the club’s highest transfer expenditure was €8 million.
Assane Diao, born in Senegal, has represented the Spanish U21 national team since 2023. At Betis, he mainly came off the bench but impressed during his limited game time, scoring two goals and providing three assists in 742 minutes across all competitions this season.
Diao’s talent caught the attention of Como’s head coach, Cesc Fabregas, who reportedly pushed for the deal. Fabregas hopes the young winger will play a pivotal role in Como’s push for success. Slovenian fans may remember Diao from Betis’ Conference League clash with Celje, where he showed glimpses of his potential.
