Erling Haaland has committed his future to Manchester City, signing an extraordinary 10-year contract that will likely see him spend the remainder of his career at the Etihad Stadium.
The deal, unprecedented in modern football, reportedly includes record-breaking financial terms and solidifies Haaland’s status as the cornerstone of City’s long-term plans.
The 23-year-old Norwegian striker joined City in the summer of 2022 from Borussia Dortmund and has since established himself as one of the world’s most prolific forwards. In just three seasons, Haaland has delivered extraordinary results, helping City win two Premier League titles, the Champions League, and the FA Cup.
In 126 appearances for City, Haaland has scored an astonishing 111 goals and provided 15 assists, topping the scoring charts in the top five European leagues for three consecutive seasons. His clinical finishing and consistency have made him a key figure in City’s domestic and European dominance.
The new 10-year deal, first reported by The Athletic, is a rarity in football. Such long-term commitments are almost unheard of in today’s transfer-driven market. If Haaland fulfills the contract, he will remain with Manchester City until he is 34 years old.
"I am very happy to sign a new contract, as it will allow me to spend even more time at this great club," Haaland said. "City is an exceptional club, full of great people and surrounded by fantastic fans. I would like to thank Guardiola and the rest of the staff, with whom I have improved significantly in recent years."
The new contract deals a blow to Real Madrid, who had been eyeing Haaland as their next Galáctico. The Spanish giants were reportedly prepared to activate a release clause in his previous deal. However, the new contract includes no release clause until 2029, and even then, it is set at an exorbitant amount, effectively pricing out potential suitors.
By signing this deal, Haaland has positioned himself as the centerpiece of Manchester City’s ambitions for the next decade. Under Pep Guardiola, the striker has thrived, and the club’s faith in his ability to lead them to continued success has been rewarded with this historic commitment.
For City fans, Haaland’s decision represents not only a triumph on the pitch but also a declaration of intent as they aim to maintain their dominance in English and European football for years to come.
