Edin Džeko rejected a €8 million MLS offer to honor his promise to Fenerbahçe, where he’s helping push for the Süper Lig title with goals and leadership.
Edin Džeko, captain of the Bosnian national team and star striker for Fenerbahçe, reportedly turned down a lucrative offer from MLS worth €8 million, double his current salary of €4.2 million in Turkey. According to Turkish media, citing Sabah, Džeko stayed because of a promise he made to his club.
"I gave Fenerbahçe my word that we would win the title," Džeko is quoted as saying, firmly deciding to remain with the Istanbul giants.
Džeko’s professionalism and leadership have made him an indispensable figure at the club. He is not only pivotal on the pitch but also a mentor to younger players and a fan favorite.
Fenerbahçe currently sits in second place in the Turkish Süper Lig, trailing leaders Galatasaray by three points. Their next match is a crucial away game against Beşiktaş.
