A dramatic incident unfolded at Burnley when youth coach Dave Longwell mistakenly sent a highly critical message about the first team to the players themselves.
In the message, he didn’t hold back, describing some players as lazy and others as not good enough for Burnley. He also criticized former manager Vincent Kompany, who left Burnley this year to take over at Bayern Munich.
Dave Longwell, who had been working with Burnley’s youth academy since last November, has already offered his resignation, which the club’s management has accepted. The incident occurred when Longwell used WhatsApp to send messages in which he harshly criticized the senior team.
Longwell labeled some players as not good enough and others as too lazy, lamenting that Burnley would struggle to get rid of them. He also took aim at Vincent Kompany, accusing him of bringing in numerous players who aren’t up to Burnley’s standards. The issue arose when Longwell accidentally sent these messages to a group chat intended for the U21 team!
The youth players quickly shared the messages with the senior team players and staff. Longwell found himself in a deep hole with no way out. Today, the club’s sporting director informed the parents of the youth team that the 50-year-old coach has left the club and that his role will now be filled by someone else.
It’s worth noting that Kompany was relegated from the Premier League with Burnley but still managed to secure a coaching position at Bayern Munich this year.
