Cristiano Ronaldo confronted Antonio Cassano after the former Real Madrid player left him out of his top 10 best players in history, sparking a heated exchange.
A dialectic dispute has erupted between Cristiano Ronaldo and former Real Madrid player Antonio Cassano after the Italian left Ronaldo out of his top 10 best players of all time. Cassano revealed during a conversation on the BSMT Podcast that Ronaldo messaged him, accusing him of disrespect.
Cassano explained that, for him, Ronaldo doesn't rank among the top players in football history. “I said Ronaldo is No1, the Brazilian. Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t make my top five, or even top ten, because for me the quality of a player is another thing,” Cassano stated. His comments did not sit well with the Portuguese star.
According to Cassano, Ronaldo sent him a detailed message listing his career achievements, including trophies, goals, and statistics, followed by a voice note where he accused the Italian of disrespect. Ronaldo allegedly said, "You disrespected me, don’t do anything like that again. You only scored 150 goals, you only won four trophies."
In response, Cassano remained unapologetic, saying, “Dear Cristiano, listen to me. You think I disrespected you, I just don’t like you as a player. What’s the problem?" The Italian seemed bemused by the fact that Ronaldo had taken the time to personally message him, concluding the story with, “He went to the trouble of messaging me, imagine.”
The exchange highlights the sensitivity surrounding Ronaldo’s place in football history and how discussions of legacy can provoke strong reactions from even the biggest stars in the game.
