Como has secured its place back in Serie A, Italy's top football league, for the first time in 20 years.
This remarkable turnaround comes after the club found itself in the fourth tier following bankruptcy. The resurgence was spearheaded by Indonesian billionaires, brothers Robert and Michael Hartono, who transformed the club's fortunes rapidly after their acquisition.
The Hartono brothers, with a staggering net worth exceeding €43 billion, inherited a significant portion of their wealth from their father, who owned one of the world's largest tobacco producers. They also made substantial investments in the Central Bank of Asia, adding to their immense wealth. In the upcoming season, they will be the wealthiest owners in Serie A.
Legendary footballer Thierry Henry has also invested in the club and has been a frequent presence at matches this season. Cesc Fabregas, the former Spanish star, joined Como in 2022, ending his playing career there before transitioning into a coaching role. At one point this season, Fabregas even took the helm as head coach for five matches.
Additionally, Dennis Wise serves as a consultant for the club. At the celebration of the team's promotion, Jamie Vardy was present, sparking rumors that he might join Como next season as his contract with Leicester City is due to expire soon.
It would be a surprise, but regardless, Como's preparation for the Serie A campaign this summer is sure to be a fascinating process, with the potential addition of high-profile players.
