Cesc Fabregas, now 37, has been appointed as the head coach of Italian Serie A newcomers Como, a club where he also holds a minor ownership stake.
Cesc Fabregas (37) has taken on the role of head coach for newly promoted Italian Serie A club Como. This appointment sees Fabregas transitioning from his previous role at the club, where he worked in Serie B last season. In November, he briefly served as interim coach but was limited to a month-long stint due to not having a UEFA Pro License at the time.
To address this, the club temporarily appointed Welshman Osian Roberts as head coach, with Fabregas assisting him until the end of the season. Como secured promotion to Serie A by finishing second in Serie B, and now that Fabregas has met all the necessary requirements, he will take over the team, while Roberts will move into a development director role.
"I am happy to start this season as the head coach and thank the ownership group for entrusting me with this task. I share their ambitions and believe this is just the beginning for this club. This will be a tough and important season, but my staff and I are ready and full of faith," Fabregas said.
This marks Fabregas' first full-time managerial position. The legendary Spanish midfielder concluded his illustrious playing career at Como at the end of the previous season, having played for top clubs like Arsenal, Barcelona, Chelsea, and Monaco, and achieving both World Cup and European Championship titles with Spain.
