Brazilian football is mourning the loss of Brito, one of the defenders who helped the country win the 1970 World Cup, widely regarded as one of the greatest teams in football history.
The former Brazil international died at the age of 86 after complications caused by pneumonia.
A pillar of Brazil's golden generation
Brito played as a central defender and was an important member of the Brazil squad that lifted the World Cup in Mexico under the leadership of Pelé.
The team remains one of the most celebrated in the history of the sport, featuring iconic names such as Pelé, Jairzinho, Tostão, Rivellino and Carlos Alberto.
According to Brazilian media reports, Brito had been hospitalised since 14 May after suffering complications related to pneumonia.

The news of his death was confirmed by the Brazilian Football Confederation and members of his family.
Brazilian Football Confederation president Samir Xaud paid tribute to the former defender.
"Brito leaves us as one of the greatest defenders in the history of Brazilian football. His contribution to the 1970 World Cup triumph will never be forgotten. May his fighting spirit inspire our players who will represent Brazil at the World Cup."
Distinguished international career
Brito represented Brazil between 1964 and 1972, earning 45 international caps.
In addition to winning the World Cup, he helped Brazil lift the Roca Cup against Argentina in 1971 and the Brazil Independence Cup in 1972 following victory over Portugal in the final.
Throughout his international career, he established a reputation as a tough, reliable defender and became one of the foundations of a team that secured Brazil's third world title.
A lasting legacy
Although the attacking stars of the 1970 side often received most of the attention, Brito played a crucial role in providing the defensive stability that allowed Brazil's gifted forwards to flourish.
