Borussia Dortmund shifts focus to Ben Chilwell after missing out on Renato Veiga, with a potential loan move in the works.

Borussia Dortmund has set their sights on Ben Chilwell, with the German club now considering the Chelsea left-back after their initial target, Renato Veiga, moved closer to signing with Juventus, according to The Sun.

The 28-year-old former England international has struggled for game time under Enzo Maresca, playing just 45 minutes this season in an EFL Cup match. Chilwell joined Chelsea from Leicester City in 2020 for over €50 million, and while his first season was impressive with 4 goals and 7 assists, injuries hampered his progress, and he has failed to reclaim his best form since.

Last season, Chilwell managed only 21 appearances, with just 13 starts and one assist. This campaign has been even more challenging, as Maresca initially relegated him to training apart from the first team before giving him minimal opportunities.

Although Chilwell reportedly prefers to remain in the Premier League, he is open to the idea of joining a club like Dortmund, last season's Champions League finalists, who are looking to revamp their squad following the departure of Nuri Şahin.

A potential loan move is under serious consideration, but Dortmund could face challenges due to Chilwell’s high wages at Stamford Bridge. However, Chelsea might be willing to cover part of his salary to facilitate the move, similar to their recent arrangement with Raheem Sterling's loan to Arsenal.
