David Beckham humorously dismissed his son Romeo's Arsenal loyalty with a savage Instagram reply before Manchester United’s clash with the Gunners.
David Beckham, Manchester United legend and global football icon, is no stranger to the fierce rivalry with Arsenal. However, that rivalry has taken a personal twist in his household, with his son Romeo Beckham being an avid Gunners supporter.
Before Manchester United’s visit to the Emirates, Romeo shared a playful Instagram post, captioned: "Big game in the old Beckham household today @davidbeckham. COYG."
But Beckham Sr., now owner of Inter Miami, wasn’t about to let the banter slide. Sharing Romeo’s post, he quipped: "Big game for you lot. Just another game for us."
How Romeo became an Arsenal fan
The rivalry within the Beckham family stems from a childhood moment. David recalled how Romeo became an Arsenal supporter during a match weekend when he happened to watch the Gunners play. Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger played a pivotal role in cementing Romeo’s allegiance.
Beckham shared on Rio Ferdinand Presents: "He [Romeo] was treated so well by Arsene Wenger, who brought him into the changing room, introduced him to the players, and even gave him a signed shirt. From that moment, it was done."
Despite Beckham’s best efforts to sway his son back to Manchester United, the former England captain admitted: "I’ve tried to change his mind since, but it is impossible."
Rivalry heats up at home
As United and Arsenal prepared to meet for the first time this season, the friendly father-son rivalry added an extra layer of excitement. While Romeo passionately supports Mikel Arteta’s side, Beckham’s heart remains with the Red Devils.
For Romeo, Arsenal’s recent form offers hope of a strong showing, especially with a packed fixture schedule on the horizon. Meanwhile, Manchester United are seeking consistency under manager Ruben Amorim.
What’s at stake?
The Emirates showdown is significant for both sides. A win for Arsenal could reduce the gap to league leaders Liverpool, while a victory for Manchester United would put them within three points of the Gunners. With such high stakes, the Beckham household rivalry mirrors the passion and tension felt by fans worldwide.
