Dani Olmo, 26, faces a major setback as La Liga has barred Barcelona from registering him for 2025 due to breaches of Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.

The Spanish international, who returned to Barcelona last summer in a €55 million move from RB Leipzig, now finds himself unable to play for both his club and the national team.

Despite a strong start to the season with Barcelona—15 appearances, six goals, and one assist—Olmo’s profile has been officially removed from the team’s roster on La Liga's website. Without registration, Olmo cannot participate in domestic matches for Barcelona or be called up for Spain’s national team, as only registered players are eligible.

This situation is a significant blow for Olmo, a key figure in Spain’s successes, including their UEFA Nations League and European Championship victories in 2024. At the Euros, he played a pivotal role, contributing three goals and two assists to guide Spain to the title. Over 41 appearances for Spain, Olmo has scored 11 goals and provided 10 assists.

According to Catalan outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona must urgently resolve the registration issue or find a club willing to register Olmo by the end of January. If not, he will miss Spain’s crucial matches, including the Nations League quarter-finals against the Netherlands in March and the final tournament in June.

Both Olmo and his representatives have stated that leaving Barcelona is not under consideration for now. However, the clock is ticking, and without a resolution, Spain’s national team will be deprived of one of its most influential players.

As Barcelona grapples with financial constraints, this situation highlights the broader impact of their FFP issues, affecting not just the club but also its players’ international careers. For Olmo, finding a solution soon is imperative to avoid missing out on key moments in his career.
