Barcelona are set to lose teenage talent Dro Fernández, who is close to joining PSG for a €6m release clause after failing to agree a new contract at Camp Nou.
The news has come as a shock in Spain. Barcelona are set to lose one of their most promising young talents, with Dro Fernandez expected to leave the club during the January transfer window.
The 18-year-old broke into the first team this season and was viewed internally as an important part of Barcelona’s future. However, talks over a new contract failed to progress, leaving a release clause of just €6 million in place — a figure now set to be activated.
Paris move already agreed
Barring a late twist, Dro Fernández will soon sign for Paris Saint-Germain, where the project is led by former Barcelona coach Luis Enrique.
Multiple reports indicate that Enrique played a decisive role in convincing the teenager to make the move, with PSG already preparing to finalise the deal. The midfielder had also attracted interest from several Premier League and Bundesliga clubs, underlining his reputation across Europe.
Painful blow for Barcelona
The situation represents a significant setback for Barcelona and a clear misstep in squad management. Sporting director Deco is facing criticism for failing to secure Dro with a new deal that included a higher release clause.
Although the player’s contract runs until the summer of 2027, the €6 million clause is accessible to virtually any top club — and many outside that category as well — making Barcelona powerless once it is triggered.
Profile of a modern attacker
By trade, Dro Fernández is an attacking midfielder who can also operate effectively on the left wing. In the current season, he made five official appearances for Barcelona’s first team, gaining valuable exposure at the highest level despite his young age.
His departure will be felt at Camp Nou, both as a sporting loss and as a reminder of the fine margins involved in protecting elite youth talent.
