Palmeiras midfielder Eduard Atuesta is close to joining MLS side Orlando City, as the Colombian seeks more playing time after limited opportunities under Abel Ferreira.
With the FIFA Super Club World Cup on the horizon, Palmeiras is making key decisions about its squad under Abel Ferreira. While their attempt to bring back Merentiel from Boca Juniors fell through due to the $16 million release clause, the club is also preparing for potential departures—and Eduard Atuesta appears to be the next out the door.
According to ESPN, the Colombian midfielder is in advanced negotiations with Orlando City of Major League Soccer (MLS). Atuesta, who is under contract with Palmeiras until 2026, has reportedly agreed to forgo a significant portion of his remaining salary to facilitate the transfer.
Atuesta struggled to find playing time under Abel Ferreira after returning from his loan at Los Angeles FC, where he made 41 appearances, scoring four goals and providing three assists. Since rejoining Palmeiras, he has featured in just three matches, playing a total of 42 minutes: 12 minutes against Portuguesa, 17 minutes versus Noroeste, and 13 minutes against Santos.
This lack of opportunities appears to have influenced his decision to seek a return to MLS, where he previously thrived.
