Arturo Vidal celebrates an emotional league title with Colo Colo, calling it the most meaningful victory of his career. The 37-year-old dreams of Libertadores glory for the club’s centenary.
A goal from Arturo Vidal secured a 1-1 draw for Colo Colo against Copaipó at the Luis Valenzuela Hermosilla Stadium, officially clinching the 34th Chilean league title for the club. Known as "El Cacique," the team waited for the end of the simultaneous match between Universidad de Chile and Everton before breaking into celebrations, lifting their coach Jorge Almiron in triumph.
As reported by ANSA, Vidal, affectionately called "El Rey" in his homeland, was overcome with emotion. He even shed tears, managing to express, "Throughout my career, I’ve won many titles, but nothing compares to this—at 37 years old, coming back home to experience something like this. It feels like a dream. I can only thank everyone who made this possible through heart, hard work, and sacrifices."
Looking forward, Vidal shared his ambitions to push Colo Colo further in the Copa Libertadores.
"This year, we were stopped in the quarterfinals, but my dream is to win it in 2025, the club’s centenary year," he said.
Adding to the joy of this moment, Vidal has received a call-up from national team coach Ricardo Gareca for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Peru and Venezuela. He will replace Erick Pulgar, who was sidelined due to an injury sustained in Flamengo’s recent Brazilian Cup final victory over Atlético Mineiro.
