The defending Copa America champion Argentina has secured a spot in the quarterfinals of this year's tournament after just two matches in Group A.
The reigning world champion achieved this by defeating Chile 1-0 in the second round in East Rutherford, following a 2-0 win over Canada in the opener. The only goal in the match against Chile was scored by Lautaro Martinez in the 88th minute.
Canada, making its debut in this tournament, is also close to advancing to the quarterfinals after defeating Peru 1-0 in Kansas City, with Jonathan David scoring in the 74th minute. After two rounds, Argentina leads with six points, Canada is second with three, while Chile and Peru are at the bottom with one point each.
In the third round, scheduled in four days, Argentina will play against Peru and Canada will face Chile.
