The former brilliant midfielder and current coach of the newly promoted Serie A club Como is assembling a player mosaic for the season in Italy's top flight.
The ambitious Italian club Como earned promotion to the elite Serie A from Serie B last season, and thus the team will be significantly strengthened this summer. The club is managed by the wealthiest owners in Italy, but it appears that megalomaniac investments in the player roster are not (yet) in the cards. Nevertheless, an interesting squad is being built under the guidance of Cesc Fabregas.
Yesterday, the club added 31-year-old defender Alberto Moreno, a former player of Sevilla, Liverpool, and Villarreal, who was a free agent this summer.
The next target for Como is 24-year-old attacking midfielder Rodri Sanchez, who showed great promise as a youth player. Currently, he is a member of Real Betis, with a long-term contract until the summer of 2028. He developed his skills in the youth teams of Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.
Also in the running for a move to Como is the well-known 41-year-old veteran goalkeeper Pepe Reina, who is currently a free agent and apparently not ready to retire. Reina has played for clubs such as Barcelona, Liverpool, Napoli, Bayern, Milan, Lazio, and Aston Villa, and most recently defended Villarreal's net. He has made 36 appearances for the Spanish national team, debuting in 2005.
This year, Como has already spent 20 million euros, bringing in Alberto Dossena, Gabriel Strefezza, Andrea Belotti, Matthias Braunöder, and Ben Kone.
