Roy Keane criticized Manchester United’s performance and Marcus Rashford’s “shocking” display during their 2-0 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates.
Roy Keane didn’t hold back in his analysis of Manchester United’s lackluster 2-0 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates on Wednesday night. The former United captain slammed the team’s overall performance, describing it as “rubbish,” and singled out Marcus Rashford for his underwhelming contribution off the bench.
United’s struggles at the Emirates
New manager Ruben Amorim experienced his first loss in charge of Manchester United as goals from Jurrien Timber and William Saliba, both from set-pieces, secured Arsenal’s victory. Although United showed some defensive promise in open play during the first half, they struggled against Arsenal’s physicality on set-pieces and failed to pose any meaningful attacking threat.
Amorim made six changes to the lineup, with Amad Diallo and Marcus Rashford among those benched. While Diallo offered a spark when introduced, Rashford’s impact fell flat, drawing heavy criticism from Keane.
Roy Keane’s verdict on Rashford
Speaking on The Overlap, Keane didn’t mince words about Rashford’s performance: “I’ll tell you something, Marcus Rashford came on there. His general play as a footballer is shocking.”
The former midfielder expressed frustration with Rashford’s lack of influence and United’s overall lack of intensity, calling out the team for failing to respond in a high-pressure match.
What’s next for Manchester United?
The defeat leaves Manchester United needing to regroup as they look to find consistency under Amorim. With key players struggling to deliver and defensive frailties exposed, questions are mounting about how quickly Amorim can turn things around. Rashford, one of United’s key attacking threats, will need to step up to help lift the team out of their current struggles.
