UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin is taking action to help his homeland, Slovenia, which was hit by devastating floods in early August, resulting in loss of life and significant material damage.
Čeferin has announced the organization of a charity football match set to feature some of the sport's biggest legends.
The match is scheduled for September 15 at the Stožice Stadium in Ljubljana and will include football greats such as Predrag Mijatović, Javier Zanetti, Luís Figo, and Gianluigi Buffon. The event aims to raise funds to assist those affected by the floods.
"In the wake of the tragedy that struck Slovenia in August, I felt compelled to do something meaningful to help those in need. What better way than to bring together some of the most iconic names in football for a good cause?" said Čeferin.
The charity match offers a dual benefit for Slovenians: not only will the proceeds from ticket sales go toward aiding the flood victims, but fans will also get the chance to witness the prowess of legendary footballers in action.
Čeferin's initiative has been met with widespread acclaim, both within the football community and among the general public, as it combines the power of sport with humanitarian aid.
